Indian Astrologer & Priest in Houston, TX

An Indian Astrologer and Priest in One Practice

Families in Houston looking for an Indian astrologer and priest are usually looking for two things in one person: someone who can read a chart properly, and someone who can perform the ceremonies of the tradition correctly, in Sanskrit, with the full procedure rather than an abbreviated version. Master Vishnu was trained in both. Jyotish, the science of the chart, and karmakand, the science of ritual, are separate disciplines in the classical curriculum, and most practitioners study one or the other. He studied both in India under traditional gurus, alongside Sanskrit, and has practised them together for more than 35 years.

In practice that means one relationship covers the whole arc of family life. He casts and reads the birth chart of a newborn and prepares the namkaran. He matches horoscopes before a marriage and then performs the wedding. He selects the muhurta for a new house and conducts the griha pravesh at the appointed hour. He prescribes Navagraha remedies when a chart calls for them and performs the shanti puja himself. Families across Houston, Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, Missouri City and The Woodlands rely on him for this continuity, and he serves them in Hindi and English, explaining the meaning of each rite as it is performed rather than leaving it as unexplained recitation.

Astrologer & Priest Services — Frequently Asked Questions

Which ceremonies do you perform?

The full range of household rites. For beginnings: namkaran and annaprashan for children, and mundan. For marriage: kundali matching, engagement, the wedding itself with all its stages, and the associated pujas. For the home: griha pravesh, vastu shanti and satyanarayan katha. For remedy: Navagraha shanti, Rudrabhishek, Ganesha, Lakshmi, Hanuman and Durga pujas, and havan for specific planetary afflictions. For the departed: shraddh, tarpan and pitru paksha observances. If your family keeps a particular rite that is not on this list, ask — regional and community traditions vary widely and he will tell you honestly if it is outside what he is trained to perform.

What do we need to arrange before the ceremony?

You will be given a written list well in advance, tailored to the specific rite and to what is available locally in Houston. Typically the household provides fresh flowers, fruit, sweets, rice, ghee, a clean space with room for those attending, and any family items you wish to include. Master Vishnu brings the ritual implements and the less common samagri that a household would not normally keep. For a havan he brings or arranges the kund and the wood. Nothing on the list is expensive or difficult to source, and the Indian grocers in Houston stock almost all of it. If anything is unavailable, tell him and a traditional substitute will be given.

Do you travel outside Houston for ceremonies?

Yes. He serves the whole of Greater Houston as a matter of course — Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, Stafford, Missouri City, Richmond, Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands and Galveston — and travels further into Texas for weddings and larger family occasions when arranged in advance. For families outside travelling distance, many remedial pujas and havans can be performed on your behalf at his own altar using your names, gotra and birth details, with a formal sankalpa; this is long-established practice and clients participate by video where they wish. Household ceremonies such as griha pravesh naturally require his presence and should be booked with as much notice as possible.

Our family is not very traditional and we do not speak Sanskrit. Will we feel out of place?

Not at all, and this is one of the reasons families in Houston return to him. He explains what each stage of a rite means as he performs it, in Hindi or English, so that everyone present — including children raised here, non-Indian spouses and guests of other faiths — can follow what is happening and why. There is no expectation of prior knowledge and no correction of anyone who does something imperfectly. Many second-generation families tell him it was the first time a ceremony made sense to them. Interfaith and mixed families are welcomed without qualification, and he will adapt the explanation, though not the rite itself, to those present.

How far in advance should we book, and how are fees decided?

For weddings, three to six months is sensible, both because dates fill and because muhurta selection should not be rushed. For griha pravesh, four to six weeks is usually sufficient, though the auspicious window may fall sooner or later than you expect. Smaller pujas can often be arranged within a week or two. Fees depend on the length and complexity of the rite, the travel involved and the materials required, and you will be given a single clear figure in advance covering everything. He does not add charges on the day and does not ask for additional dakshina beyond what was agreed, though families who wish to offer it are of course free to.
